Spring Break is the traditional time to see colleges, but all too often students fail to take full advantage of their visits. All too often I see students on a tour silently following the guide, studiously avoiding eye contact with their parents, evincing no apparent interest in the college whatsoever. STUDENTS THIS IS YOUR TOUR, WHY IS YOUR MOM ASKING ALL THE QUESTIONS? To get the most out of your visit, and possibly identify the school at which you will be spending the next four years, do two things: 1) research the school online and identify five things you like and five things you don’t like about the school and ask the admissions counselor about them 2) bring something to write on and take notes. You will not remember much if you don’t and you may end up confused about which school had the really great department you wanted to learn more about.
It’s your future so take control.
