Many students have already heard from a number of schools and as acceptances and rejections climb students have to reconcile aspirations with reality. If you did not get into your dream school and it was a huge reach given your GPA and test scores, know that life probably just did you a big favor. In Malcolm Gladwell’s latest book, David and Goliath he examines the deleterious effect of being in the bottom quarter of a class, even when that class is at Harvard. Students thrive when they feel successful, and no one feels successful in the bottom quartile. Internships and research opportunities generally go to those at the top of a class, so when that super selective school doesn’t select you, know that there will be more opportunities for you at the school where you were accepted. Then go out a buy the sweatshirt and wear it with pride.
